Write Birthday Cards To Michael Johnson

This event, hosted by Professor Ianna Hawkins Owen’s “Writing To, From, and About Prison” class, will feature a short teach-in about Michael Johnson’s case. (Michael Johnson identifies as a black, gay HIV positive man and was sentenced to 30 years by an almost all-white, all-straight jury under laws that criminalize people with HIV/AIDS, luckily advocates on the outside and inside have worked to get him released in 2019). Afterwards, we’ll send birthday cards/letters to Michael whose birthday is in December! Swing by Paresky 220 between 6 and 7 PM (feel free to bring your dinner, but there will be snacks and supplies provided!)
