Workshop with Meiver De la Cruz, scholar of Middle Eastern and North African dance traditions

Meiver De la Cruz is an accomplished dancer and teacher of Middle Eastern and North African dance genres. Currently, she is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies at Oberlin College, and a doctoral candidate in the Department of Performance Studies at Northwestern University.

The Dance Department would like to welcome the Williams community to attend Prof. De la Cruz’s lecture “Dance Remains: Female “Eastern” Dancers Before, During, and After the Columbian Exposition of 1893” on Friday, October 19th, at 4:00 PM in Hopkins 002, and her workshop on Raqs al Baladi, the source dance for Egyptian style “Bellydance,” on Saturday, October 20th, at 10:30 AM in the ’62 Center Dance Studio. The workshop is open to all genders and levels.
