In this concert, titled British Masters, the Williams College Wind Ensemble offers music by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gustav Holst, and Gordon Jacob. Bookending the presentation are two of Gustav Holst’s best known works for winds, First Suite in Eb, and Second Suite in F. Two contrasting works of Ralph Vaughan Williams are showcased with the second movement of his Symphony No. 8, and Flourish for Glorius John. Gordon Jacob’s William Byrd Suite includes the ear catching movements, The Earle of Oxford’s Marche, and Wolsey’s Wilde. Also by Jacob, named with equal whimsy, is Old Wine in New Bottles, with the movements Three Ravens, and The Wraggle Taggle Gypsies.
