Williams Opera Workshop stages Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, (The Revenge of the Bat) with a small orchestra. A ball costume party is the setting of this delightful operetta. Amidst the gowns, tuxedos, and party masks, a whimsical farce unfolds as comic revenge is taken to settle the score for a practical joke between friends.
Erin Nafziger, Artist Associate in Voice at Williams is the stage director and choreographer for the production. The orchestra is directed by Sebastian Black ’19. Jake Eisner ’21 is the assistant conductor. The cast includes Olivia Graceffa ’22 (Rosalinda), Spencer Brooks ’21 (Alfred), Erin Kennedy ’19 (Adele), Joshua Gurwitz (Eisenstein), Guanghao Yu ’21 (Dr. Falke), William Ren ’21 (Frank), Rebecca Kuo ’22 (Sally), and Samori Etienne ’21 (Frosch, Ivan).
Williams Opera Workshop is a project involving talented Williams student singers working together to prepare operatic scenes. This offers singers the opportunity to further develop skills in stage acting and character development while working as part of an ensemble. The workshop culminates in this final concert performance.
