The Williams College Department of Music presents the Williams Opera Workshop in a concert on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. in Chapin Hall on the Williams College campus. This free event is open to the public.

Williams Opera Workshop fills Chapin Hall with the glorious sounds of Mozart, Weill, and Humperdinck.

From Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro the singers, recruited from the ranks of talented Williams music students – as well as faculty, perform the finale to Act II of this most famous of operas accompanied by a student-led orchestra. Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, always a favorite, receives a semi-staged performance of Act III scene III. The ensemble also performs “Ice Cream Sextet,” from Kurt Weill’s opera Street Scene.

Williams Opera Workshop is a project involving talented Williams student singers working together to prepare operatic scenes. This offers singers the opportunity to further develop skills in stage acting, character development, and foreign language while working as part of an ensemble. The workshop culminates in this final concert performance.
