Benjamin Britten: Hymn to Saint Cecilia
Gustav Mahler/Gottwold: Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen
Galina Grigorjeva: On Leaving
Alfred Schnittke: "Complete this work" from Choir Concerto
The Williams Chamber Choir will give a concert on Friday, Nov. 16, at 8 p.m. in Thompson Memorial Chapel on the Williams College campus. This free event is open to the public.
The choir will perform a series of a cappella choral settings exploring the role of music in life’s final journey. In these works, music is balm, is a vehicle for the spirit, is the soul’s home. The program includes Benjamin Britten: Hymn to Saint Cecilia, Gustav Mahler / Gottwold: Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen, Galina Grigorjeva: On Leaving, and Alfred Schnittke: “Complete this work” from Choir Concerto.
Williams College has long had a fine tradition of music performance in its choral ensembles. Director Brad Wells, who entered his seventh year with the college this fall, has helped that tradition flourish. The choral program has much to offer students interested in singing, with a number of performances throughout the year, a wide range of repertoire, recordings and tours. The Chamber Choir is directed by Mr. Wells and is composed entirely of students.
