Williams Chamber Players

“The Way They Danced” is the titled of the latest concert by the Williams Chamber Players. The ensemble features many of their talented faculty musicians, starting the evening with La Revue de Cuisine, a jazz influenced work of the early 20th century by Bohuslav Martinu played by David Wharton, trumpet; Paul Green, clarinet; Stephen Walt, bassoon; Muneko Otani, violin; Nathaniel Parke, cello; and Elizabeth Wright, piano. Lou Harrison’s Varied Trio for Rice Bowls, Violin, Vibraphone, and Piano is an exploration into making music with culinary utensils featuring Joanna Kurkowicz, violin; Matthew Gold, vibraphone; and Doris Stevenson, piano.

In the second half of the evening the ensemble returns to its chamber music roots playing Johannes Brahms’s Piano Quartet in G Minor, op. 25, performed by Joanna Kurkowicz, violin; Ah Ling Neu, viola; Nathaniel Parke, cello; Doris Stevenson, piano.

The Williams Chamber Players was founded in 1999 and is coordinated by Doris Stevenson. The Williams Chamber Players is a resident performance faculty chamber music ensemble at Williams. The ensemble offers performers and audiences the opportunity to explore chamber music over a range of periods and styles. Distinguished performance faculty share the joy of making music together to the delight of student and community audiences.
