The Williams College Department of Music presents the Williams Chamber Players in a concert on Friday, October 7, at 8 p.m. in Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall on the Williams College campus. This free event is open to the public.

Titled “High Baroque, Eastern Folk, Bach and Handel, Golijov and Cowell,” the Williams Chamber Players offer another concert of delightfully contrasting works with a variety of styles and musicians. The concert begins with Handel’s harp concerto in B flat Major, op. 4 No. 6, HWV 294 and features Elizabeth Morse, harp, who is joined by violinists Joana Genova and Max Sopher ’17, Ah Ling Neu, viola, and Ronald Feldman, cello. Soprano Erin Nafziger together with pianist Elizabeth Wright also present a work of Handel, “Da tempeste il legno infranto,” and “Piangerò la sorte mia,” from the opera Giulio Cesare. The focus switches to the 20th century with Henry Cowell’s Homage to Iran, performed by Joanna Kurkowicz, violin, Matthew Gold, percussion, and Doris Stevenson, piano. This is followed by a piece by the living composer Osvaldo Golijov, Mariel, played by Ronald Feldman, cello, Matthew Gold, marimba. After the intermission, harpsichordist Edwin Lawrence plays Handel’s Suite in D Minor, HWV 428. The evening is capped with J. S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations Part I, BWV 988 arranged for string trio by Dmitri Sitkovetsky featuring Joanna Kurkowicz, Ah Ling Neu, and Nathaniel Parke, cello.

The Williams Chamber Players was founded in 1999 and is coordinated by Doris Stevenson.
