Zeynep Tufekci is an Associate Professor in the School of Library and Information Sciences at UNC, Chapel Hill, a staff writer at The Atlantic, contributing opinion-writer for the New York Times and regular contributor to such publications as Wired and Scientific American. Her regular and incisive commentary on the pandemic and the public health response to it, the initial CDC and W.H.O. guidance against wearing masks to vaccination policy, has won acclaim and proved broadly influential. She is the author of Twitter and Tear Gas: The Power and Fragility of Networked Protest (Yale, 2018), and much of her research focuses on the interplay between technologies and social life, including such topics as AI, big data, and surveillance.
