The Williams College Museum of Art, Williams Instructional Technology Team, and Quantitative Skills Programs invite you to attend a WCMA Digital DataThon on Saturday, July 20 from 9am to 5pm.
One of the goals of the WCMA Digital Project is to examine how we interact with the museum collection as a way of finding new avenues for the Williams community and the wider public to engage with the collection. On July 20, we invite you – as individuals or in small teams – to take a look at the data and to think about the stories we might be able to tell from what is there. The aim is not to provide definitive answers, but to generate questions and pathways we might pursue to find answers.
We will begin with an overview of the data, a short introduction to storytelling with data and the specific tools you might use. You will then have time to work with the data to produce a data visualization of some kind – as a drawing or up to three PowerPoint slides. Those that would like to present their visualization to the group will be able to do so at the end of the day.
We will provide snacks, lunch, and technical support during this event.
