We have invited critically acclaimed artist and filmmaker Wanuri Kahiu for a conversation on her 2018 movie Rafiki. Rafiki navigates complex themes of queer representation and homophobia in contemporary African societies. As Wanuri Kahiu emphasizes shattering conventional African representation and creating art for the fun of it, we would love to create a space on campus where we can engage with the conversation of what it means to create “fun, fierce, and frivolous African art” while navigating the often harsh realities of post-colonial Africa.
