Join Prof. Efraín Agosto and his Religion and Politics in Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Diaspora (LATS 253) class for a conversation with historian Jorell Meléndez-Badillo on his recent collaboration with music artist Bad Bunny.
Meléndez-Badillo is an Assistant Professor of Latin American and Caribbean History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the author of Puerto Rico: A National History (Princeton University Press, 2024). His highly acclaimed book informed the historical elements of Bad Bunny’s DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS [I Should’ve Taken More Photos] (Rimas Entertainment, 2025). For the artist’s sixth album, Meléndez-Badillo created 17 visualizers that feature historical notes, highlighting different eras, from the 1500s to the present day, and figures in Puerto Rico’s political and social justice past. Released on January 5, 2025, some of the visualizers reached over 20 million views on YouTube after a week. Meléndez-Badillo’s presentation will include playing and analyzing some of Bad Bunny’s numbers.
This event is sponsored by the Latina/o Studies Program at Williams College.
