It was Anton Chekhov’s countryman Leo Tolstoy who famously asserted that each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. Uncle Vanya presents a precisely unique and evocative vision of familial longing, strife, desire, and regret. Chekhov himself observed that “any idiot can face a crisis; it is the day-to-day living that wears us out.” The Theatre Department’s site-specific production of this Russian masterpiece, staged in historic Elm Tree House at Mt. Hope Farm, will invite audience members into intimate contact with Uncle Vanya’s brilliant and loving characters, as they valiantly attempt to endure in the face of everyday catastrophe.

Busses will leave from the back circle of the ’62 Center promptly at curtain time. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early. There is no parking at Mount Hope.
