There Isn’t Enough Room for Infinite Utility in Only Two Envelopes by Alexander Paolozzi '21

There Isn’t Enough Room for Infinite Utility in Only Two Envelopes by Alexander Paolozzi ’21, Mathematics Colloquium, Monday, November 2, 1:30 – 2:15 pm, talk can be accessed through the Mathematics Colloquium Glow page.

Abstract:  I will be exploring the St. Petersburg paradox and the two envelopes paradox in order to examine how traditional expected value thinking can break down when utility is infinite. This will primarily be achieved with conditional probability and the generation of a contradiction.
