The Weight-Lifting Game: A 5 in 1 Game by Hazel Ethier ’22, Mathematics Colloquium, Wednesday, January 19, 1 – 1:45 pm, North Science Building 017, Wachenheim

Abstract:  During this talk, I will provide a basic introduction to game theory, explaining five classic 2×2 symmetric games:  the Prisoner’s Dilemma, the chicken game, the stag hunt game, trivial cooperation, and trivial defection.  Next, I will suggest a new game, the weight-lifting game, and prove that, depending on the success probabilities of the game, it is equivalent to each of the five previous games.  Lastly, I will discuss the importance and relevance of this discovery to the field of game theory and a few applications of this game.
