The Screewidth of a Graph by Prof. Ralph Morrison, Mathematics Faculty Seminar, Friday, October 7, 1 – 1:45 pm, North Science Building 017, Wachenheim.

Abstract:  The treewidth of a graph is an important invariant that measures how close a graph is to being a tree.  In this talk we present a new invariant of a similar flavor called the screewidth of a graph.  We prove connections between screewidth and chip-firing games on graphs, and present open problems and conjectures.  This is joint work with Lisa Cenek, Lizzie Ferguson, Eyobel Gebre, Cassandra Marcussen, Jason Meintjes, Liz Ostermeyer, Shefali Ramakrishna, and Ben Weber.
