The Williams College Department of Music presents New Thread Quartet.  This event is free and open to the public.

New Thread Quartet presents Walk for a shell, a special concert of repertoire from their yearly fall Explorations and spring Electric Sax concerts. An aural feast for curious minds, the works span the reflective to the frenetic, notated to the improvised, and the tiniest sounds to the uber-rich sounds only a saxophone quartet can produce.

New Thread Quartet was formed with the mission to develop and perform impactful new music for the saxophone, and to provide high-level ensemble playing to highlight today’sinnovative compositional voices. Now in its 11th season, the quartet has commissioned and premiered over 50 new works by composers such Amy Beth Kirsten, Richard Carrick, Ben Hjertmann, Ebun Oguntola, Scott Wollschleger, Kathryn Salfelder, Taylor Brook and Emily Koh. Based in New York City, New Thread has performed at Carnegie Hall, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Roulette, The Stone, Bang-on-a-Can Summer Festival Benefit, and Monadnock Music, while bringing new works to audiences in Arizona, Virginia, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Scotland, and working with students in residencies across the country including UCLA, Peabody Conservatory, NYU, Montclair State University, and the University of Virginia. New Thread recorded Elliott Sharp’s seminal work Approaching the Arches of Corti, available on New World Records, the three saxophone quartets by Emily Koh on innova, and released its debut album, Plastic Facts, on New Focus Recordings. Ensemble members are Jonathan Hulting-Cohen (soprano saxophone), Noa Even (alto saxophone), Erin Rogers (tenor saxophone) and Zach Herchen (baritone saxophone).
