The Groundswell Climate Migration Modeling Project

“Internal climate migrants are rapidly becoming the human face of climate change. According to the new World Bank report “Groundswell – Preparing for Internal Climate Migration”, without urgent global and national climate action, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Latin America could see more than 140 million people move within their countries’ borders by 2050. Alex de Sherbinin, from the The Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) a center within the Earth Institute at Columbia University, who played a key role in developing this report, will discuss the cross-sectoral modeling and methodology that combined projected future changes in climate and their impacts on crop production and water availability with a dynamic population model based on assumed future socioeconomic pathways.”

Sponsored by the Geosciences Dept. and Class of 60’s Scholar Program and presented by Dr. Alex de Sherbinin.  All are welcome!
