Thu, October 3rd, 2024
4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Immigration policy and regulation is one of the leading campaign issues during this election season. Dr. Onoso Imoagene (Associate Professor of Social Research and Public Policy at New York University Abu Dhabi) will discuss her latest book Structured Luck: Downstream Effects of the US Diversity Visa Program. Her ethnographic piece centers on Nigerian and Ghanaian Diversity Visa recipients by assessing their social and economic outcomes in the US. Her work highlights the unique experiences of Black African migrants who are minimally discussed in comparison to other migrant groups when it comes to mainstream discussions regarding immigration policy.
Sponsored by the Africana Studies, the Lecture Committee, and the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
