The State of U.S. Immigration: Policies, Myths, and Extending Welcome
Friday, January 18, 6-8pm
Griffin 4
1 in 8 people in the United States is an immigrant. Our goal in this workshop is to explore what this statistic means and what it entails. We will start by busting some common myths, putting U.S. immigration and refugee policy in global context, and exploring what immigration means locally. And then we will double down and grapple with recent and evolving news items, like the current situation at our southern border. Whether you’re not quite sure who a “refugee” is and want to be able to confidently discuss immigration with that uncle of yours, or you’re looking for concrete ways to get involved and welcome newcomers, take these couple hours out of your evening to learn and talk about immigration with us.
Middle Eastern cuisine provided, with additional options for those with allergies and dietary restrictions. Brought to you as part of the Free University workshop series by Refugee Advocates: No Lost Generation. All welcome!
