The Williams Staff Committee is working with Multicultural BRIDGE to run a staff-focused “Bias and Belonging” workshop about how staff can do anti-bias work on campus and approach uncomfortable conversations about race and privilege. Our goal is to create awareness for how power and privilege dynamics play out on our campus as well as in our wider communities. What can staff do to create a more inclusive community?

We will bring staff together to share materials and discuss issues staff face related to bias, power and privilege, microaggressions, and microaffirmations. This workshop intends to build upon the discussion of challenging Williams to become a space in which everyone belongs and working towards creating a community that is safe and equitable for all people. This event is intended for all staff. This workshop is suitable for those who are completely new to thinking about bias in their everyday lives as well as people who are experienced in anti-bias work. The workshop will include small breakout group discussions by interest as well as a BIPOC affinity breakout group.

Through this workshop the Staff Committee will continue to explore the 2021 Claiming Williams theme: From Racial Injustice to Restoration. This event is possible through the generous support of Claiming Williams and the W. Ford Schumann ’50 Fund in Democratic Studies.
