Pointwise Ergodic Theorems Via Descriptive Set Theory by Prof. Jenna Zomback, Mathematics Faculty Seminar, 1 – 1:45 pm, North Science Building 017, Wachenheim.
Abstract: Dating back to Birkhoff’s theorem in 1931, pointwise ergodic theorems equate the global condition of ergodicity with the local (pointwise) statistics of a group action. We will discuss various instances of the pointwise ergodic theorem, as well as how this local-global interplay lends itself towards finitary, descriptive set theoretic arguments.
