Picture This: The Mathematics of Hanging a Painting by Eric Tran ’22, Mathematics Colloquium, Monday, October 18, 1 – 1:45 pm, North Science Building 113, Wachenheim.

Abstract:  We will examine a model for hanging paintings and discuss the interesting mathematical concepts we can uncover in the process of hanging up our favorite family portrait/modern art piece/medieval banner.  Such concepts include catastrophe theory, evolutes and strophoids.
