You are cordially invited to attend a lecture by guest speaker, Professor Susan Neiman, American philosopher and writer, she will present, “Left is Not Woke?” on Thursday, October 24th at 4:30 pm, Griffin 3.
Susan Neiman is Director of the Einstein Forum and the author of nine books. She argues that being woke is fueled by traditionally leftwing emotions: the wish to stand with the oppressed, to address historic crimes. But the woke undermined those emotions by making widespread assumptions with reactionary sources. As a result, woke conflicts with ideas that have guided the left for more than 200 years: universalism, a firm distinction between justice and power, and belief in the possibility of progress.
