On Nov 11th, Mercury will transit in front of the Sun, an event that won’t happen again until 2032. Weather permitting, the Astronomy department will be opening up the observatory on the roof of TPL for viewing of this celestial event from 9:30am until 1pm. Everyone is welcome!
To access the rooftop observatory, take the stairs on the Eastside of TPL (facing the parking lot) all the way up to the fourth floor. In the event of cloudy weather, the transit can be observed using NASA’s livestream (https://mercurytransit.gsfc.nasa.gov/2019/). To find out if the observatory is open, you can call the observatory control room at 413-597-2165.
