Model Selection and Information Criteria by Franklin Reilly '22, Statistics Colloquium
Model Selection and Information Criteria by Franklin Reilly ’22, Statistics Colloquium, Wednesday, December 8, 1:10 – 1:50 pm, North Science Building 017, Wachenheim
Abstract: Statisticians strive to learn from the past so that they can improve the future. One way they do this is through modeling, but how do you choose the best model? In this talk, we will discuss the various techniques to value the strength of different models side by side using elements of information theory and cross validation. We will also show how AIC and BIC help to weigh bias against variance in this selection process.
