MIDWEEKMUSIC is a unique lunchtime music series. The audience sits on the Chapin Hall stage to enjoy the wonderful acoustics and atmosphere of a grand hall combined with the intimacy of a chamber concert. Everyone is encouraged to bring lunch and enjoy the music performed by our students and faculty. This first MIDWEEKMUSIC of the year consists of just one piece – with many performers. Professor Ed Gollin leads a group of Williams students, faculty, and friends in a performance of In C, by Terry Riley. The minimalist work brings together people who might not otherwise get a chance to perform with one another. Over the years, the piece has become a tradition in the music department.

Heading up the project, Prof. Ed Gollin comments, “Besides being a really great piece of music, and great fun to perform, the communal nature of the work’s organization (a product greater than the sum of the individual performers making individual decisions) reminds us that music is a communal activity.  What better way to celebrate the beginning of year by coming together to make music?”
