Star-Crossed Mathematics: Bridging Group Theory & Graph Theory by Nico Cavalluzzi ’23, Mathematics Colloquium, Wednesday, October 19, 1 – 1:45 pm, North Science Building 113, Wachenheim.
Abstract: Frucht’s Theorem (1939) states that every finite group is isomorphic to the automorphism group of some graph. Naturally then, Frucht’s theorem offers a novel and illustrative approach to linking the mathematical structures of groups and graphs. In this talk, I will present historical background, offer a proof of Frucht’s theorem, and discuss interesting takeaways from the results.
