Lynette Wallworth is an Australian artist known for her immersive multimedia installations, which focus on the interactivity between humans and the natural world. Her works include Coral: Rekindling Venus, an examination of the ecologically threatened biodiversity of the Great Barrier Reef, and Evolution of Fearlessness, an intimate portrait of 10 refugee women.

Her most recent work is Collisions, a virtual reality investigation into the first contact between an indigenous Australian tribe and the momentous impact of Western expansion. Wallworth’s work has been exhibited worldwide, including at the Sundance Film Festival, the World Economic Forum in Davos, the American Museum of Natural History, New York, and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, among many others.  Carol wrote, “I saw [her] at the Museum of Natural History as part of the World Science Festival, 10 days ago. “Collisions,”  knocked my socks off.”

Audience members will have the opportunity to view the 15-minute film, “Collisions”, using virtual reality headsets in the lobby of the MainStage preceding the talk.

Lynette Wallworth’s visit is part of the Williams’ Confronting Climate Change year of inquiry. Throughout this academic year the college is hosting a series of speakers, events, and programming planned to shed light on the issue of climate change and how we should respond to it as individuals, as an institution, as a nation, and as a member of the global community. Her visit is sponsored by the Gaudino Fund, the Thomas B. Healy ’50 Fund, the departments of Anthropolgy and Sociology, Art History, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and the Williams College Museum of Art.

Tickets are free but required. Reserve by calling the ’62 Center Box Office (413-597-2425) Tuesday – Saturday, 1-5 pm or book online. (Note: the box office is closed for spring break March 18-April 3 but online booking is still available during that time.)
