“Resilient Woods Hole: Climate Resiliency in a Coastal Cape Cod Community” – Paul Speer ’78, COO Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
ResilientWoodsHole is a private-public initiative to ensure that the coastal village
of Woods Hole prospers into the future despite major climate
change impacts.
Woods Hole is an internationally renowned center for research focused on marine
science and biological discovery. Paul will discuss the initiative’s goal of
developing and applying resilience strategies to increase coastal resiliency in the
village and, importantly, serve as a model for other like initiatives.
After graduating from Williams, Paul received his PhD in Oceanography from the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
Joint Program. He worked as a scientist with the US Navy for many years before
becoming President of the Center for Naval Analyses, an applied research and
development center supporting the Navy. Subsequently he came to the MBL to
be its inaugural Chief Operating Officer.
Paul will hold an informal career discussion about opportunities for those
interested in a scientific career outside the traditional academic route.
All are invited to Log Lunch! Vegetarian local food lunch is $3. Reservations Required: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e44aea728a3f9c07-loglunch1#/
