Cuba! A fascinating mix of well-educated people, soviet-era trucks, ’57 Chevy’s, and a lush tropical landscape used heavily for agriculture has long been off limits to Americans. Thanks to Obama-era opening, half a dozen Americans teamed with Cuban Environmental Scientists to understand the connection between changing agricultural systems, erosion, and the quality of water flowing down Cuban Rivers. The talk will be a mix of travel-log, new data, and speculation about how the Cuban landscape works over human and geologic timescales including a little bit of how a William’s trained glacial geologist, end up wading down tropical rivers?
