Grace Weatherall ’16 is Attorney Advisor, U.S. EPA Office of General Counsel, Air and Radiation Law Office.
Grace Weatherall, ’16, has worked as a climate change attorney in both NGO and government. After graduating from law school in 2021, she first worked as a legal fellow and an attorney for the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), focusing on oil and gas and power plant regulation. While at EDF, Grace worked on the litigation team arguing in defense of EPA in the West Virginia v. EPA case, which sought to narrow EPA’s ability to regulate greenhouse gases from power plants. In early 2023, Grace moved to the EPA, where she works as an Attorney Advisor. Grace will discuss her law school and early career experience, including the roles and opportunities for attorneys working both inside and outside the federal government. She will give an overview of the structure and function of environmental law in the United States, including the role of Congress and the executive branch, the Clean Air Act, and the new Inflation Reduction Act, which amended the Clean Air Act for the first time in 30 years. She will describe the role of an environmental NGO attorney in advocating for change, litigating against and sometimes with the government, and filing comments on rulemakings. And she will describe the role of an Attorney Advisor at EPA, helping to shape new climate regulations.
Log Lunch is a program of the Center for Environmental Studies, bringing environmental speakers and locally grown lunch to the Williams community every Friday during the academic year since 1977.
