Lines and Circles: Factoring and Rotations: Sequences and Miracles by Prof. Thomas Garrity, Friday, March 15, 1 – 1:45 pm, Thompson Chemistry 206, Mathematics Faculty Seminar
Abstract: Overall this will be an introduction to Sturmian sequences and their links to rotations of the circle, lines in the plane and continued fraction expansions. Underneath all are attempts to understand the nature of factoring. At the end, current questions will be discussed.
