A medievalist whose expertise ranges from Byzantium to Western Europe, Herbert L.
Kessler is the author or editor of over 20 books and 200 articles on aspects of Medieval art
ranging from frescoes and mosaics to illustrated manuscripts and ivories. Herbert L.
Kessler is the Croghan Bicentennial Visiting Professor in Biblical and Early Christian
Studies in the Art Department. He is Professor Emeritus of the History of Art at Johns
Hopkins University and Invited Professor of the Masaryk University in Brno, Czech
Republic.
