The Williams College Department of Music presents the Williams Jazz Ensemble directed by Kris Allen in Chapin Hall at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2. This free event is open to the public.

Williams Jazz Ensemble, led by Kris Allen, offers a concert titled The Healing Edge. The program explores contemporary big band arrangements by Maria Schneider, Darcy James Argue, Ayn Inserto, and others.

About Kris Allen
Kris Allen is the Lyell B. Clay Artist in Residence in Jazz and Lecturer in Music at Williams and the director of the Williams Jazz Ensemble. An award winning saxophonist and composer, he has performed with many legends of jazz music, including Illinois Jacquet, Gerald Wilson, Curtis Fuller, Andy Gonzales, and Curtis Fuller, as well as with modern stars such as Helen Sung, Winard Harper, Jeremy Pelt, Andy Laverne, the Mingus Dynasty, and Mario Pavone. In addition to numerous ongoing sideman projects Kris is a co-founder of the Jazz Samaritan Alliance and member of the Truth Revolutions Recording Collective. His quartet has released two critically acclaimed albums of original works Circle House (2012) and Beloved (2016) and toured nationally and worldwide. Prior to joining the Williams community he held positions at Trinity College, the Hartt School, Southern Connecticut State University, and the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts. He has been a senior teaching artist in the many educational programs of Litchfield Performing Arts since 2001.
