IOTA Ensemble presents in the dead of night Leonard Bopp ’19, director. In the dead of night mixes works by young composers, Williams alumni, and some of today’s foremost composers. They present music that celebrates the spirit of inspiration, and the objects, places, and people from which inspiration flows. The performance explores the difficult act of drawing inspiration from seemingly dark and disparate settings. Zachary Wadsworth: Eclipse (2017); Sato Matsui ‘14: Fushugi Uta (2015) Songs of Curiosity; Alex Medeiros ‘20: Piano Duet (2017); Sammi Stone ‘17: Individual Trees in Bahrain (2017); Julia Wolfe: Singing in the Dead of Night (2008); Olivier Messiaen: Vingt Regards No. 15 (1944); Bryce Dessner: Tenebre (2014).
Held each January in the '62 Center for Theatre and Dance, the annual I/O Festival of New Music immerses audiences in the full spectrum of today's most vital compositional trends. Over three days of new and adventurous music, the festival presents guest artists, the I/O Ensemble, and the student-run IOTA Ensemble in concert programs and additional events in unconventional public settings. I/O invites audiences to open their ears and minds and experience the music of now.
