I/O Fest - “Here Be Sirens”

Here Be Sirens” an opera in one act, book and music by Kate Soper, performed by Fresh Squeezed Opera. Here Be Sirens blends beautiful music, terrifying noise, screwball comedy, and Aristotelian tragedy to present the mythological sirens as real beings, invested in their own origins and obsessed with the possibility of escape from the tedium of endless irresistible desire. Hailed by The New Yorker as “…an erudite, hilarious, furiously inventive meditation on the siren myth…”

Held each January in the '62 Center for Theatre and Dance, the annual I/O Festival of New Music immerses audiences in the full spectrum of today's most vital compositional trends. Over three days of new and adventurous music, the festival presents guest artists, the I/O Ensemble, and the student-run IOTA Ensemble in concert programs and additional events in unconventional public settings. I/O invites audiences to open their ears and minds and experience the music of now.
