Hannah Goodrick '18, violin

Violinist Hannah Goodrick ’18 offers an afternoon concert, her Senior Thesis Recital. Collaborating on piano and harpsichord is Ellery Galvin ’18.

She begins the program withSonata for Violin and Harpsichord No. 1 in B Minor, BWV 1014 by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Also on offer are movements from Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 18 in G Major, K. 301; Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major, K. 216, “Strasbourg”; Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major, K. 219, “Turkish” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Included are cadenzas by Hanna Goodrick.

 

Hannah Goodrick is a proud member of the Williams College Class of 2018. She is a Music major, senior thesis candidate in violin performance, four-year member of the Berkshire Symphony, and student of Joanna Kurkowicz. During Winter Study terms at Williams, Hannah participated in the Williams Opera Workshop and the Chamber Orchestra of Williams. She began studying violin at the age of six and was a student of Akiko Silver from age seven to eighteen. She also studied piano from age seven to eighteen with instructor Jennifer Litwin.

She is originally from Darien, CT and attended Greenwich Academy from Pre-K through 12^th grade, where she was the concertmistress of the GA/Brunswick orchestra. She was a member of the Norwalk Youth Symphony from 5^th through 12^th grade and attended the Chamber Music Institute Summer Program at the University of Maine throughout middle and high school. Performance opportunities have taken Hannah abroad to Vienna, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Barcelona, Carcassonne, Venice, Florence, and Rome.

Hannah captained the Williams Varsity Field Hockey Team in 2017, received NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team honors in 2017, and was a member of the Williams Club Water Polo team for three years. She has coached youth swimming and water polo at the Stamford Yacht Club in Stamford, CT for four summers. Hannah’s academic interests at Williams spanned a wide range of subjects, including the life sciences. She will be teaching 6^th-9^th grade science at the Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, MA starting fall 2018.

Hannah would like to thank Joanna Kurkowicz for providing her with violin instruction since the fall of 2014 and for advising the performance portion of this thesis. She would also like to thank Marjorie Hirsch for advising the written work of her thesis project, and Jennifer Bloxam for providing feedback on her writing.

Ellery Galvin is a senior at Williams College studying physics. Her thesis project uses Monte Carlo wave functions to model bichromatic laser cooling schemes. As a collaborative pianist, she apprenticed with the Washington National Opera, and she is currently the proud accompanist for the Northern Berkshire Chorale.  Ellery has also appeared as the conductor of Sweeney Todd with the Williams Opera Workshop and of Tykus Tykus with the Williams Concert Choir.  This summer, she will be interning with a local startup company called Valt that’s developing a new password management application.  In her free time, she enjoys slacklining, photography, and discovering sentences that have probably never before been spoken. Most importantly, she’s honored to join Hannah for her senior recital.
