French Film Festival / La Grande Guerre: Remembering the First World War

This week's film, Un long dimanche de fiançailles (A Very Long Engagement), takes place during the darkest days of the World War I and its immediate aftermath. The fiancée of a court-martialed soldier sets out on a painful and frustrating search for him, which leads her to learn about the absurdity of war, the strangeness of secrecy, and the enduring passion and tenacity of the human heart. [Warner Bros.] Jean-Pierre Jeunet, French film director and screenwriter, is known for Delicatessen, The City of Lost Children and Amélie, among others.

Next week's film, and the last in this series of three recent French films, is Frantz by François Ozon.
