Faculty/Student Dining Program

In order to encourage faculty members and students to see each other outside the classroom, this program allows faculty members to share meals in the College’s dining halls free of charge.

Faculty members who would like to eat with students should feel free to take the initiative to go to the dining halls, an invitation from students is not necessary. However, this program is exclusively for the purpose of encouraging contact with students. It may not be used to provide free meals for individuals, unit meetings or for other groups of faculty members.

The level of expenses covered does vary based on location and the parameters of the program are as follows:

Lee Snack Bar, EcoCafe and Goodrich Coffee Bar:

At these cafe locations a faculty member is welcome to bring up to 5 students and to spend up to $4.00 per person (up to $24.00 total) for a beverage and a snack item. The faculty member must be accompanied by the student(s) when ordering – and please note that the Dining Staff is required to ensure that the student is present with the faculty member, so please consider this before you order.

Driscoll, Mission, Whitmans’, ’82 Grill and Paresky Grab-n-Go:

In these dining halls the faculty member should be accompanied by the student(s), or be meeting students in the dining area. When the faculty member arrives without students it is the assumption that they are meeting with the student(s) at some point during the meal. Students must use their own meal plan if possible (if a student does not have a meal plan, his/her meal may be charged to the Faculty Advisor Meals program).

To use either of these programs, be sure to bring your Williams College ID with you to charge the Faculty/Student Meals Program. This is a no-cash transaction. The intent of these programs is to encourage occasional out-of-classroom interactions between faculty and students. The success of these programs relies on the integrity of individuals within the campus community to respect each program’s intent and to use them accordingly.
