EXPRESSIVE MOVEMENT: Dance & Theatre Laboratory with Pau Aran Gimeno

Hosted by Associate Professor of Theatre Omar Sangare, and Lipp Family Director of Dance and Senior Lecturer in Dance Sandra Burton

Pablo Aran Gimeno, most notably known as a dancer from the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, and currently serving as a choreographer for the August: Osage County production at Williams Theatre, will give a workshop in movement for theatre and dance. Mr. Gimeno’s professional path has taken him from ballroom dancing in Barcelona to classical and contemporary dance in Madrid, Paris and Germany. He is currently developing several independent projects and collaborating as a teacher at several prestigious institutions and centers dedicated to dance and performance art.

A message from Mr. Gimeno to the students interested in participation:

Each body has its own language, unique and perfect. Our working tool must be continuously powerful and sensitive. With this in mind, we will work through play and pleasure, with exercises based on technique, composition, improvisation and body narrative. We will open the space to dialogue with ourselves and the others. We will connect with an authentic personal expression and we will improve the quality of movement. We will achieve an increase in the awareness of our limits, which will allow us to overcome them. The result of our work will help us have an open and autonomous mind, capable of adapting to a creative process. I propose an investigation of each individual’s language through technique, movement and corporal narrative. We will give space for the creative process to take place, for contact with oneself, sensitivity and expression, without pretensions or judgments. It’s an opportunity to increase the quality and authenticity of our art.

The Laboratory with Mr. Gimeno will be held on Thursday April 20, 2017 at 4:10pm in the Dance Studio at ’62 CTD (duration 2 hours).

Space is limited! To participate in the Laboratory please sign up at the online spreadsheet by April 10th, 2017.

Special thanks to: W. Ford Schumann ’50 Performing Arts Endowment, Dance Department, and Theatre Department at Williams.
