Professor of Philosophy and Cognitive Science Joseph Cruz shares the science behind animal minds and actions.

Joseph Cruz is the Williams College Professor of Philosophy, Chair of the Cognitive Science Program, and Acting Chair of the Science and Technology Studies Program. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in Philosophy and Cognitive Science, Tucson, AZ and a BA from Williams College in Philosophy. His philosophical areas of specialization are epistemology, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of cognitive science. In cognitive science, his research is in neural network modeling, embodied cognition, and cognitive development. He is also interested in irrationality, skepticism, meditation, eliminativism/mind as mechanism, neural constraints on cognitive explanations, animal cognition, Hume, reducing animal suffering, stream of consciousness literature, sports and embodied cognition. WCMA’s current exhibition RAWR! is presented in conjunction with Philosophy 216: The Philosophy of Animals taught by Professor Cruz.
