Saleem H. Ali believes that environmental issues can unify the world.  Blue and Gold Distinguished Professor of Energy and the Environment at the University of Delaware, Prof. Ali is an environmental planner who works on resolving ecological conflicts, as well as exploring novel ways of peace-building between corporations, governments and communities.

Prof. Ali’s work is renowned, and he has held many eminent appointments, including Senior Fellow at Columbia University’s Center on Sustainable Investment and  the Chair in Sustainable Resources Development at the University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute. Among his many illustrious positions, he is a member of the United Nations International Resource Panel, The IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas and in 2019 was chosen to join the 7-member Science panel of the Global Environment Facility (the world’s largest multilateral trust fund for the environment held in trusteeship by the World Bank).

His research articles have been cited thousands of times, and his books include Treasures of the Earth: Need, Greed and a Sustainable Future, (Yale Univ. Press); Environmental Diplomacy (with Lawrence Susskind, Oxford Univ. Press), Mining, the Environment and Indigenous Development Conflicts (Univ. of Arizona Press) and Islam and Education: Conflict and Conformity in Pakistan’s Madrassas (Oxford Univ. Press).
