Election Forecasting Using Dynamical Systems by Daniel Queen '21, Mathematics Colloquium

Election Forecasting Using Dynamical Systems by Daniel Queen ’21, Mathematics Colloquium, Monday, November 23, 1:30 – 2:15 pm, talk can be accessed through the Mathematics Colloquium Glow page.

Abstract:  In this talk we will discuss Alexandria Volkening et al’s model for predicting election outcomes.  This model uses systems of differential equations to try to alleviate polling errors.  We will see how adapting an epidemiological model to party allegiance can approximate the interconnectivity of American voters and attempt not to repeat the mistakes of previous election forecasting models.
