- 9:00 am

  • This event has passed.
You are invited to the Northern Berkshires’ 2nd Eid al-Fitr Celebrations held at Williams College.
  • WhatEid Al Fitr Celebration
  • When: Wednesday, 04-10-2024, Takbirat begin at 7:30, Prayer & Khutba (sermon) ends at 8:30 am
  • Where: Bascom House (new location)
  • WhoALL ARE WELCOME! – Muslims, their non-Muslim friends, spouses/partners, families, and children!
  • What else: We will have hot beverages and sweets/treats from the Islamic world and our unique region (cider doughnuts, etc.) after the sermon. There will also be a bounce house and other fun children’s activities. You may bring your own prayer mat for sanitary reasons.
We will be joined by students from Bennington College. It’s a festive occasion when Muslims bathe, put on their best clothes, and perfume before coming to the prayer. If you’re a non-Muslim guest, you may sit and observe the prayer and join folks during mealtime.
If you work/study at Williams, you are encouraged you to take the day off if you can. Please see the respective policies for students and for Faculty/Staff on Cultural and Religious Observances. Email the Muslim Chaplain at sm45@williams.edu if you need any assistance in communicating with your professor/manager.
Lastly, we need volunteers for set-up on Tuesday, April 9th, to put the prayer mats down and install direction signs. We’d need at least a couple of people at to help set-up food before the event on Wednesday morning too. Please email Muslim Chaplain Sidra Mahmood at sm45@williams.edu if you’re able to volunteer on Tuesday, April 9th at 2:30-5pm or Wednesday, April 10th at 7am for set-up and 9:30AM for clean-up.
This is a second-time event in hopes of connecting the Muslim community that is hidden throughout southern Vermont, hill country of New York and Berkshire county (currently folks have to drive to Albany or Springfield for big events like this). We hope to make connections and begin having more programs to support the burgeoning Muslim community in the area.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday morning! Wear your best clothes and come celebrate the spirit of Eid!
