DJ Scholarship and Why Willie May Thornton Matters: A Conversation with DJ Lynnée Denise Bonner
DJ Lynnée Denise, 2021-2022 Sterling Brown Distinguished Professor of Africana Studies, DJ and Scholar, will discuss her new book Why Willie May Thornton Matters. We will also engage with her about her methodological paradigm “DJ Scholarship”, which she conceived to “describe a mix-mode research practice, both performative and subversive in its ability to shape and define social experiences, shifting the public perception of the role of a DJ from being a purveyor of party music to an archivist and information specialist”
Sponsored by the Africana Studies, Music, English, and Dance Departments, the Lecture Committee and Office of the Dean of Faculty
