Dance on Screen Film Festival

How can the camera expand our experience of dance? In five films, we will watch together as diverse dance traditions are brought to life. Live Q+A’s with filmmakers and choreographers will reframe dance from multiple viewpoints, and bring vibrant choreography from around the world to wherever you may be.

Dance on Screen Film Festival is a special collaboration with Images Cinema. All films are free and open to the public.

The unrivaled imagination and acrobatic marvel of the German modern-dance pioneer Pina Bausch are ingeniously brought to life on screen by master filmmaker Wim Wenders. A long-planned film collaboration between the director and the choreographer was in development when Bausch died in 2009. Wenders forged ahead with the project, a loving homage to Bausch and as vivid a representation of dance as has ever been brought to the screen. Pina is an adventurous work of cinema that highlights the bold legacy of one of the world’s true creative visionaries. 103 min.

There will be a post-screening of Pina  Q+A hosted by Erica Dankmeyer, Artist-in-Residence in Dance, and Sarah Rara, Assistant Professor of Art, have a conversation with Wim Wenders, “Pina” director, and Bettina Wagner-Bergelt, Artistic Director, Pina Bausch’s dance company, Tanztheater Wuppertal.
