What does “free expression” mean on a college campus? Is free expression vital to the liberal arts? Should there be restraints on public discourse? What is the legal basis for protecting free expression at a private college? Is “hate speech” free expression? Can certain words or ideas harm students? How should Williams address issues of free speech, free expression, and intellectual diversity?

On Wednesday, April 3, the Society for Conservative Thought will host “Considering the Case for Campus Free Expression” to explore these questions and more. Nico Perrino, a guest speaker from the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, will join Professor Luana Maroja to share their perspectives on the role of free expression and open intellectual inquiry in liberal education. Attendees are invited to engage with the speakers during the Q&A session.
