On Saturday at 8:00 p.m. in Chapin Hall, the Concert Choir will perform the U.S. premiere of Judd Greenstein’s ’01 Lamenting, a work commissioned with the generous support of the Jewish Studies Program. Greenstein has created a significant new work of great hope and emotional range, one of the best pieces yet by this young, brilliant composer.

The Chamber Choir will perform excerpts from Palestrina’s Lamentations, which include settings of numerous Hebrew letters.

Greenstein incorporates and responds to Palestrina’s Hebrew letter settings and creates music of great scope and emotional range.

The concert will include a discussion regarding various intersections which occur in the new work: Christian/Jewish; high Renaissance/contemporary; Jerusalem/Rome; letter/note.
