In fall 2020, CoDa collaborated with the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble (NYC), to reconstruct a suite of dances from Anna Sokolow’s Rooms (1955), conceived specifically for virtual presentation. Assistant Professor of Art Sarah Rara undertook the creation of this film, capturing our interpretation and performance. Lyell B. Clay Artist-in-Residence Kris Allen assembled an ensemble of student musicians to record Kenyon Hopkins’ original jazz score.
In 2020/2021, Rooms is hauntingly real, and surreal. Isolated in the grip of a global pandemic, and mired in divisive issues of political and social injustice, we are all living Rooms.
